Boy and Donkey Cart "Funnygraph" (Tintype)
I found this tintype, along with another of the same boy, at an antique show. In "The American Tintype" by Floyd Rinhart, Marion Rinhart & Robert W. Wagner they call this type of image a "funnygraph". They were popular in the 1870's at places like carnival's, boardwalks and fairs. I love the solemn expression on this boy's face in contrast with the silly cutout. The board artist's patent is visible (transposed) in the lower left corner: Karl Del / PATD APR 14 1874 / No 21. 3 3/4 x 2 3/8 inches
