"Mary Lucie Minor, Fair as a Lily..."

Inscribed on recto (visible in above scan): 1 year old. / Mary Lucie Minor. Inscribed on verso (in same ink and handwriting): "The picture is dark but she is fair as a lilly. The light was too bright - made her frown." Clearly Mary's mother (or father) didn't think this photograph captured the true beauty of their small daughter. I think that inscription is so dear, I love how it gives a bit of background to the image. A little ring was painted onto her right pointer finger with gold paint at some point in time. Bon-ton.
